THE PROBLEM SOLVING PROCESS

WHAT IS THE PROBLEM SOLVING PROCESS,YOU SAY?: They are four basic steps to the Problem Solving Process. Define, Plan, Execute, and lastly Reflection. The first step DEFINE, is when you find out what the problem is asking you to do or look for also, also you want to list and write down the given. In Plan, you plan and come up with ways to solve the problem. In Execute you use what you came up in the plan and try to answer it. In Reflect you then see how you did, if you did it right or wrong. Here to test this process out we are going to use this problem. Assume there are 10 people in a room, including you. Each person in the room must shake hands one time, and only time, with all the other people in the room. How many handshakes will occur? If there are 20 people in the room, how many handshakes will occur? If there are N (where N > 0) people in the room, how many handshakes will occur?

STEP 1 DEFINE: Ask yourself what data or information is shown? What is unknown what are the conditions? We known that there are ten people in the room. Each have to shake hands one and can't shake more than that. You also have to try and figure out how you are going to solve this problem with 15 and 20 people.
